We had our fundraiser “Jazzed to Adopt” this last Saturday at Union Orchard.  It was quite the party!

We would like to thank everyone who helped make this event possible!  From setup, musicians, making and serving dinner, making home-made desserts, running the silent auction, selling raffle tickets, picking up trash, picking up after the event, and all the helping in-between that made this event go off without a hitch. There is no way this event would have happened without all the help.

We would also like to thank all those that attend to support us and give so generously.  Your kind words and donations are truly appreciated and we feel blessed to have so many good friends and family.  We would also like to thank Union Orchard for being amazing hosts.  It was a beautiful venue to hold our event!

We will be posting some photos as soon as we have them compiled!  If you were unable to attend or would like to support us you can do so here:  https://www.youcaring.com/ryan-michele-shank-564364

On Friday, June 3, our ‘dossier’ was sent to China!!!  The ‘dossier’ is the information China requires to adopt a child.  It also means we have passed trough all the hoops from the U.S. side and are awaiting China’s reception.  We have been waiting months for this moment and are so excited!  Our ‘dossier’ is currently being translated into Chinese so that it can be processed and we can be placed with a child.  Last week we were able to listen in on a monthly conference call with our adoption agency to discuss trends in matching Chinese children with families.   We will listen to the call every month and give you all an update.  On average it takes 3-4 months to be matched with a specific child, then 4-6 more months until we travel to China.

This Saturday, June 18, is our fundraiser at Union Orchard from 5:30-9:30.  Here’s a link for more information.  Please join us!!!!

We have been in contact with Holt inquiring why the process of authentication and certification by U.S. Immigration has been taking an exorbitant amount of time.  We found out that most of our documents are back, but the state department misspelled the notaries name on some of the certification pages.  They were returned to the state department to correct, had to be re-certified, and now are in the process of being authenticated.  Hopefully those last few documents will be completed soon!  We'll let you know as soon as the rest of the documents have been authenticated!

We are still waiting on our immigration paperwork to be authenticated & certified by U.S. Immigration.  Our hope was to have this completed by now, but unfortunately it's taking much longer than expected.  Please pray for us to have patience!

Mark your calendars! June 18th from 5:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. we are having a fund raiser for our adoption.  The event will be hosted at Union Orchard (2405 South Hwy 75, Union, NE 68455).  There will be live music by The Davenports Jazz Band and The Sleeperhits!  There will be BBQ, beer, wine tasting, orchard tours, baked goods, silent auction, and raffle prizes.  It's going to be a blast, so make sure to bring your lawn chairs or a blanket and enjoy a cool summer night out!

P.S. We have created a crowd funding page! https://www.youcaring.com/ryan-michele-shank-564364

We are adopting a child with minor medical needs from the People's Republic of China!  This is our first entry so we'll give a history of what has occurred up until now.

In September of 2014 we started looking into adoption agencies by reading about their programs online and going to several informational meetings.  We looked into both domestic and international adoption programs. We’ve found the whole process to be very interesting and intense.

In March of 2015 we met an expecting mother at our church who wanted to give her baby up for adoption.  We talked with her for several months about the possibility of adopting her child.  When she was six months pregnant she went to visit family out of state.  She never returned and we were unable to maintain contact with her.  Although we were disappointed, it helped us solidify our determination to be adoptive parents.

In August of 2015, we started the application process with Holt.  We selected this agency because we know families who have adopted internationally through them, they have a local office in Omaha, and because of their certifications and extensive credentials.  At this time we also picked China as the country we would adopt from.

The first step was to complete some initial paperwork followed by twenty hours of classes that covered topics from being a conspicuous family to bonding issues to the culture of China.  Once we completed the classes, we were tested on the material.  We passed! =D  After that it was onto completing our home study paperwork.  The paperwork was quite intensive, but we did it as fast as we could!

In December of 2015 we began meeting with our social worker, Bonnie.  After several visits and follow up e-mails, Bonnie created our home study and sent it to Holt for approval.  Holt approved our home study and we continued on with the dossier paperwork.

In January 2016 we completed the dossier paperwork (what gets sent to China).  We’re are currently waiting on our immigration paper to get authenticated & certified so it’s ready to be sent to China.

After our dossier is sent to China we hope to be matched with child in a few months with the possibility of traveling to China in the fall.

Please pray for us in this process, we need patience.
Pray for our child and the people who will match us with him or her.
Pray for all the orphans who are waiting to be matched with families.
